This is my first time reading anything by author, Hywela Lyn and I am glad I did.  Beloved enemy is volume iii in the Destiny trilogy.  It is a science fiction romance read.  It can be read as a stand alone.  We are introduced to Cat Kincaid who crashed landed on a planet.  Kerry merchant and the crew of the destiny investigate a distress signal and are attacked by unknown assailants.  Cat saves Kerry and they are both are stranded on the planet.  Cat and Kerry have to work together fighting unknown assailants and their feeling for one another.  Will they survive and learn to trust one another?  Will cat and Kerry be able to continue to deny their feeling for one another?

Beloved enemy is very enjoyable read filled with lots of action and some very interesting characters.  It was nice getting to know cat and Kerry.  Both are very complicated characters who have been through so much and are very strong.  The more I learned about them the more i liked them more and more.  I loved the constant bickering between Cat and Kerry.  The attraction was previous obviously.  I loved the story about aliens putting them and the crew through tests to determine if mankind was worth saving.  I was glad when Cat and Kerry finally are together.  They were meant for each other.

If you love science fiction or if you love a good action book with some romance, I definitely recommend you read beloved enemy and this series. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and by this author. I love her writing.

I have to say the blurb sounds a bit dry, but not at all what Beloved Enemy was like. Twists and turns, enemies relying on each other for survival. Ultimately, they were on trial. For what? Oh, just read it and find out! No spoilers here! 

I loved Cat. She was a well rounded character, intelligent and quick on her feet. She was hunting for revenge against the man who caused her sister’s death. Her closest companion her faithful pet “Shifter”. She crash lands on a planet when her ship is hijacked and she escapes in a pod.

Kerry is a strong minded, honorable man. Trying to stay away from the corrupt Union that was taking over planets all over the universe. His ship is tracking an SOS beacon and when they land to assist they are attacked.

Cat comes to Kerry and his party’s rescue. If anyone is going to kill him it will be her.

I haven’t read the first two in the series but Beloved Enemy is a stand alone. A good one (Five Hearts)

I can’t remember the first time I read a science fiction romance but I know it’s a subgenre that I’ve enjoyed reading in the past so when I got the opportunity to read and review Beloved Enemy by Hywela Lyn, the third book in her Destiny Trilogy, I jumped at the chance. Set on an “uninhabited” planet, Beloved Enemy tells the tale of two people, determined not to fall in love with each other, who find themselves being tested and judged by a “superior” race of beings determining whether they should allow mankind to expand further into space or put an end to them.  Filled with action, emotional angst and just the right amount of romance, this is a book science fiction romance lovers will definitely enjoy.

Ms. Lyn does a good job introducing us to her primary characters, Cat Kincaid, a “pirate queen” and Kerry Marchant, a man with a colorful past.  A red haired beauty, Cat, is intelligent, skilled with weapons and a talented space pilot.  When her spaceship is attacked, she flees in a small escape “vehicle” and ends up marooned on a planet hoping to be able to find some sort of rescue.  It was a little difficult to connect with Cat at first because of how the story begins – right in the middle of her becoming marooned- but once I got to know her, and her companion “Shifter”, I liked her and enjoyed watching her character develop.  I liked Kerry’s character right from the start; a handsome man with unusually colored yes, he’s smart, tough and dedicated to the crew of his ship.  Though he doesn’t know it, he and Cat have someone in common in their past who was very important to them both.

The secondary characters are Kerry’s crew members, the “superior race” of beings who use the planet as a staging area for their “tests” of the humans that have landed there and members of the “Union”, a governmental organization Kerry hates and Cat sort of works with. Ms. Lyn does a good job combining all of the characters and action in the story and I found myself turning the pages to find out what would happen next.  Especially when it came to the chemistry between Cat and Kerry, chemistry they couldn’t ignore.

Will Cat and Kerry be able to prove that humans are worth keeping alive?  Will they ever get off the planet they are stuck on?  And will they realize that they are destined to be together?  You’ll have to read Beloved Enemy to find out, I enjoyed it look forward to reading more of Ms. Lyn’s work.

When mysterious enemies compel them to join forces, Cat has to rethink everything she’s ever learned about Kerry and Kerry does the one thing he swore he would never do again - open his heart to another woman.

From the opening page to the last this action-packed sci-fi tale is a cargo hold filled to the brim with suspense, mystery, and heat. Cat and Kerry take center stage and steal the show with their easy to relate to personalities and the burdensome baggage they tote through life like a favorite blanket they can’t bear to lose. Their evolving opinion of each other happens a little too quickly, but can be forgiven due to the stressful situation they are in. The one flaw in this otherwise delightful ride is the mysterious villains. Their actions come across as being too simplistic and petty for such a distinctive and unique race. Instead of invoking goose pimply chills of dread and fear these individuals are reduced to a mundane Monster of the Week feel. Imbuing the villains with additional menace and less crotchety attitude would launch this story into the stratosphere!

This is the first book I've read by this author. 'Beloved Enemy' is a science fiction/romance. The action begins on the first page and doesn't let up until the end of the book. It was a very enjoyable read. The characters are fully developed, and the conflict between them makes for great entertainment. Both characters are strong-willed and fight for what they believe. The story line reminded me of a Star Trek episode. That wasn't a bad thing, as I am a huge Star Trek fan. Ms. Lyn creates a believable world. Her descriptions of the planet where her characters are stranded are both vivid and filled with detail.

Thank you Hywela for this escape into sci fi romance. It proved to be not just the perfect companion to a long flight but also an excellent conclusion to the trilogy.

 I want to begin by saying that I did not read the first two books in this series, but at no time did I find myself lost. I am sure I would have had a better insight into the main characters, but I knew enough to be satisfied......
The book was very reminiscent of a story you would see on Star Trek. Since I love that show, how could I not love this book? There are surprises, secrets and a budding romance between two characters who started off hating each other. All the characters in the book were wonderful, especially Cat’s constant companion, Shifter, a very unique animal.


If you are a sci-fi fan you will love this series. Although this was a stand-alone I recommend reading the series from the start.
